MAKE IT / CLAY BEAD NECKLACES

we love the chunky bead necklace trend that we’ve been seeing around and decided to make our own version for our “creative wednesday” activity at the studio last week. what’s great about these necklaces is that you can make so many different color and shape combinations to fit whatever outfit you’re wearing. hope you enjoy! -sheila

what we used:

sculpey super sculpturing compound 1 lb. box

(makes about 75 one inch beads)

acrylic paint (in the colors of your choice)

hole cutter

parchment paper

paintbrushes

white cord

(1 yard per necklace)

• start with clean hands and work area. knead each piece until clay is soft and smooth. we made a variety of shapes, but kept them around the same size (one inch). carefully cut the holes through the beads with the hole cutter.

• preheat your oven to 275°F. place parchment paper on a baking sheet. place the beads so that they are not touching. bake for 15 minutes per 1/4 inch thickness of clay.

• allow beads to cool completely. paint as desired. once they’re all dry, you can thread the beads with a cord or string of your preference. you can even use a thin chain if you want to get fancy. our favorite bead combos were white with a hint of color!

have fun making these!
