Striped Neon Doormat DIY

Finding an attractive doormat is much harder than I initially thought (have you had the same problem? I'm convinced that there's a great business opportunity here!). When we first moved into our home, I was dead set on buying one that I could proudly display on our front stoop, but seven months in and I still had yet to unearth it. The best inspiration usually comes from need, so I made this super-easy striped neon doormat that has solved my front door woes.

Things you need: plain fiber doormat (mine was 18 X 30 in), duct tape, neon paint (I used 'Sizzling Pink', sponge brush, ruler.

Start by figuring out how many stripes you want on the doormat and measure everything out for equal spacing. Tape the sections with duct tape for straight lines. For my doormat (18 X 24) I made each of the sections a bit over 4 inches wide, creating 7 stripes and painting 3.

Apply the paint by dabbing with a sponge brush. This will force the paint into all the nooks and crannies. It will take a few coats of paint.

Let the stripes dry overnight and then pull off the tape.
